I’m Herbert Dorfmann, a MEP from the German speaking minority in Italy / South Tyrol. I was elected in 2009 with the South Tyrolean People’s party SVP.
After my agricultural studies I worked as head of the agricultural department of the Chamber of Commerce of Bolzano, as a Director of South Tyrol Farmers’ Union and as a Secretary General of the Assembly of European Wine Growing Regions. Before being elected to the European Parliament I was a Mayor of the Commune Feldthurns.
During the mandate 2009-2014 I was working in the Committee of Agriculture to assure the rights of European farmers. Additionally as a member of the Economic and Financial Committee I was focusing on the European economic governance reforms, supporting policies for small and medium-sized enterprises and contributing to the establishment of the Banking Union. Another core part of my policies is the protection of traditional and linguistic minorities in Europe.
